The Popular Software Adobe Photoshop is Famous Photo editing software in the
graphic world. Photoshop was created in 1988 by Thomas and John Knoll Two
Brothers.
Thomas Knoll is an American software engineer,
In 1987, Thomas Knoll, then a PhD student at the University of Michigan, began
writing a program on his Macintosh Plus to display grayscale images on a
monochrome display. This program, called Display, caught the attention of his
brother John Knoll, an Industrial Light & Magic employee, who recommended
Thomas turn it into a full-fledged image editing program. Thomas took a six
month break from his studies in 1988 to collaborate with his brother on the
program, which had been renamed ImagePro. In 1988, Thomas renamed his program
Photoshop and worked out a short-term deal with scanner manufacturer Barneyscan
to distribute copies of the program (under the name Barneyscan XP) with their
scanners.
John Knoll
John Knoll (born 1962) is a visual effects
supervisor and chief creative officer (CCO) at Industrial Light Magic
(ILM).One of the original creators of Adobe Photoshop (along with his brother, Thomas
Knoll), he has also worked as visual effects supervisor on the Star Wars prequels and the 1997
special editions of the original trilogy. He also served as ILM's visual
effects supervisor for Star Trek
Generations and Star Trek:
First Contact, as well as the Pirates
of the Caribbean series. His work on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest earned him the Academy
Award for Best Visual Effects.
Knoll has been praised by directors James Cameron,
Gore Verbinski, Guillermo del Toro, and Brad Bird. Del Toro, who worked with
Knoll for the first time on the Pacific Rim, stated "He basically has the
heart of a kid and the mind of a scientist, and that’s a great combination."
A co-developer of Photoshop along with his brother
Thomas Knoll, Knoll is also the inventor of Knoll Light Factory, a lens flare
generating software inspired by his work at Industrial Light and Magic.
Knoll was also the Computer Graphics Project
Designer on The Abyss, an
achievement which earned ILM its tenth Academy Award for Visual Effects, and
worked on two Star Trek episodes - Star
Trek: The Next Generation's pilot episode ("Encounter at Farpoint")
and the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
episode "Explorers".
.
Photoshop's
naming scheme was initially based on version numbers. However, on October 2003,
following the introduction of Creative Suite branding, each new version of
Photoshop was designated with "CS" plus a number; e.g. The eighth
major version of Photoshop was Photoshop CS and the ninth major version was
Photoshop CS2. Photoshop CS3 through CS6 were also distributed in two different
editions: Standard and Extended. In June 2013, with the introduction of
Creative Cloud branding, Photoshop's licensing scheme was changed to that of
software as a service and the "CS" suffixes were replaced with
"CC". Historically, Photoshop was bundled with additional software
such as Adobe Image Ready, Adobe Fireworks, Adobe Bridge, Adobe Device Central
and Adobe Camera RAW.
Alongside
Photoshop, Adobe also develops and publishes Photoshop Elements, Photoshop
Lightroom, Photoshop Express and Photoshop Touch. Collectively, they are
branded as "The Adobe Photoshop Family".
